USYS National League Welcomes 54 Clubs to Elite 64 Regional League

FRISCO, Texas (Aug. 4, 2023) — The USYS National League is excited to welcome 54 clubs into the newly formed Elite 64 Regional League, which will begin play in the 2023-24 season.

The Elite 64 Regional League will feature boys and girls clubs in the 13U through 19U age groups and serve as a club-based second tier to Elite 64 — the National League’s top club-based league platform.

The announced clubs all fall within the Elite 64 Regional League Great Lakes group or the Elite 64 Regional League Midwest group. In the Midwest, the girls group will be split into two divisions — North and South — which will begin league play this month. The Midwest boys may kick off in November and play through the spring. In the Great Lakes, the boys group will be split into two divisions — North and South — and all girls clubs will play in a single division. All Great Lakes groups may begin play in November and will play through the spring.

The Elite 64 Regional League will serve as a proving ground should opportunities open up in Elite 64 within the Great Lakes or Midwest. Elite 64 Regional League teams that finish at the top of the Great Lakes and Midwest groups will have the ability to qualify for the National League Conference Playoffs — giving them the ability to earn their place into the enhanced national event pathway that gives all National League teams the ability to compete toward a common goal — the USYS National Championships. Highly ranked teams may also have the ability to qualify for open slots in the Elite 64 Playoffs.

“We are very excited to work with these clubs in the Elite 64 Regional League and offer opportunities for the players to play meaningful games in a club-based environment,” said Simon Collins, National League Commissioner. “We are confident this platform will provide an excellent test for players and clubs that gives them the ability to achieve short-term and long-term goals within the National League.”

Sparta United began its run to the Elite 64 Boys Club Championship with a strong regular season in which its teams finished either first or second in every age group within the Elite 64 Desert. At the Elite 64 National Finals, Sparta United’s performance was highlighted by its team championship in the 17U age group, as well as a semifinal run by its 14U side.

13U: Arsenal Colorado Elite 64 10B
Arsenal Colorado’s run to the title began with a complete team effort in a 5-1 win against El Paso Locomotive Academy to open the week in Oceanside. The Colorado side followed that with a clean sheet victory against Valor Soccer that advanced Arsenal into the semifinals, where it met Strikers FC North. A quick start helped Arsenal Colorado secure a 3-1 win over Strikers to advance to the championship game.

In the final against Oregon Premier FC, Arsenal struck early to take a 6th-minute lead when Ethan Zielke curled in a perfectly struck shot from 25 yards. The Colorado side came close to doubling its advantage a couple times in the first half, but Oregon did well to stay within a goal. Gideon Tullius finally managed to give Arsenal some breathing room with a second-half strike to cap the 2-0 victory that gave Arsenal Colorado the 13U title.

14U: Los Angeles SC Elite 64 09B
All-around team performances defined a stout defensive effort that carried LASC to the 14U title, as it did not concede a single goal in Oceanside. A 3-0 win against Cincinnati United kickstarted LASC’s journey, and it followed that with a 4-0 quarterfinal victory against Cedar Stars Academy North. Utah Soccer Alliance provided a tough test in the semifinals, but LASC scored twice to earn a 2-0 win and book its spot in the final.

LASC’s attack was the story early in the championship game, as the California side jumped ahead of El Paso Locomotive Academy in the early minutes. LASC took a 1-0 lead in just the first minute on a shot slotted inside the left post. Just moments later, a lofted shot beat the keeper and dipped under the bar to give LASC an early 2-0 advantage. As it did the entire event, LASC’s defense and keeper Jose Barajas made sure the lead was safe, as they clinched their fourth clean sheet and the Elite 64 title.

15U: Toca FC Elite 64 08B
The defending USYS National Champions added an Elite 64 national title to their resume, as Toca FC claimed the 15U title. Toca followed a dominant opening win against LASC with a 3-1 victory against Sparta United in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Toca’s fluid attack created numerous scoring opportunities, as it ran away with a 6-1 win against Cedar Stars Academy North.

Toca’s goal-scoring prowess carried over into the championship game against familiar foe Galaxy SC. Behind goals from Patrick Sandefur, Emanuel Hernandez, David Sorkin and Cameron Filmore, Toca FC capped its impressive week in Oceanside with a 4-0 victory to win the 15U Elite 64 title.

16U: Cincinnati United Elite 64 07B
A 3-1 win against Real Colorado in the Round of 16 kickstarted the week for Cincinnati United’s 16U side, and the team followed that with another 3-1 victory against Sparta United in the quarterfinals. Cincinnati faced a challenge from Toca FC in the quarterfinals, but it managed to earn a 2-1 win to advance to the championship game.

In the final, Cincinnati fell behind in the 3rd minute when Michigan Jaguars’ Will Lanham found the back of the net. However, Ralph Scheer recorded a quick brace with goals in consecutive minutes just after the half-hour mark to give Cincinnati a 2-1 lead. Ryan Boyd added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute that proved to be vital, as Hadi Saad pulled a goal back for the Jaguars in the 73rd minute. Cincinnati held strong for the final 10 minutes to secure the 3-2 win and claim the 16U title.

17U: Sparta United Sparta Elite 64 06B
Strong defensive efforts helped Sparta United begin its National Finals run with consecutive clean sheets, as it earned 2-0 and 1-0 victories against AYSO United and Strikers FC North, respectively. Its semifinal against Cedar Stars Academy North provided one of the best spectacles of the event, as several dramatic late goals led to a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation and a penalty kick shootout. Sparta won the shootout, 5-4, to advance to the final.

Sparta faced another tough test against Laguna United FC in the final, and Laguna took a 13th-minute lead on a Joseph Lee goal. However, Sparta responded immediately when Andrew Guizar equalized just moments later. The Utah side took a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute behind a Justin Roberts tally, and Patrick Stevenson capped a 3-1 victory with 68th-minute strike — helping Sparta to the 17U title.

19U: IMG Academy Elite 64 04/05B
IMG Academy started its week with a pair of dominant performances with shoutout victories against Legends FC and Colorado Rapids Youth SC. It continued its strong performances with a 5-1 victory against Strikers FC North in the semifinals to secure its place in the championship game against PDA.

PDA struck first in the final, with an own goal off a free kick in the 25th minute that gave the New Jersey side the 1-0 lead. Jordin Wilson provided a quick response for IMG when he directed a low cross into the back of the net to tie the game. Wilson netted his second goal in the 69th minute to put IMG in front, and Axel Dickson extended the lead to 3-1 with an 87th-minute tally. Matthew Connelly pulled PDA within one with a stoppage-time goal, but IMG repelled a couple final challenges to secure the 3-2 win and the 19U title.

Elite 64 Crowns Girls Team, Club Champions For 2022-23 Season

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (July 3, 2023) — A thrilling week of action at the 2023 Elite 64 National Finals saw six girls teams claim team championships, while South Valley Surf SC secured the overall Elite 64 girls club championship as the top-performing club across the regular season and Elite 64 National Finals.

Elite 64 is the top club-based platform in the USYS National League. All games at the Elite 64 National Finals took place at the SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside, Calif., where teams in the 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U age groups took part in knockout-style play to determine the team champions. The 19U age group featured group play followed by a championship match.

19U: Los Angeles Soccer Club Elite 64 04/05G

“It takes a special team to string together victories in this environment against talented opposition, and each of the team champions should be very proud of that accomplishment,” said Simon Collins, USYS National League Commissioner. “Winning any team title is something to celebrate, and we hope this experience has created a lasting memory that these players will share with their teammates for the rest of their lives.”

The competition at the Elite 64 National Finals was extremely competitive, as 18 percent of games went to a penalty kick shootout to determine the winner. The championship games encapsulated the excitement and competitive nature of the event, as four of the six titles were decided by just one goal, while another went to penalties.

For the girls club championship, South Valley Surf’s run to the title began in the Elite 64 regular season, when the club finished in the top two in every age group within the E64 Pacific group. That form carried over to Oceanside, where the club showed its depth and talent en route to an overall mark of 15 wins, four losses and one draw. South Valley Surf’s younger side did especially well, as its 13U side advanced to the semifinals, while the 14U and 15U teams each claimed their respective national title.

“On behalf of the USYS National League, I want to congratulate South Valley Surf on earning the Elite 64 Girls Club Championship for the 2022-23 season,” Collins said. “It takes a true club effort — from players to coaches to parents to administrators — to produce strong performances across all age groups, and this is a true recognition of the hard work put in by everyone at South Valley Surf.”

13U: Legends FC (CA) Elite 64 10G
Legends FC bookended its run at the National Finals with penalty shootout victories. It started its week with a 3-2 (PK) win against Utah Avalanche before defeating LASC, 3-0, in the quarterfinals. Legends advanced to the final by defeating South Valley Surf, 1-0, in it semifinal matchup.

The championship game matched Legends against CDA Slammers, and little separated the sides. Legends managed to grab a 10th-minute lead when Vanessa Bonner scored off a corner kick, and it carried that advantage into the second half. The Slammers generated pressure immediately off the restart and equalized in the 46th minute, as Kennedy Crawford slotted her shot just inside the left post. The match went to penalties to decide the winner, and goalkeeper Parker Wiese made the deciding save to help Legends claim the 13U Girls title.

14U: South Valley Surf SC Elite 64 09G
A 3-0 win against Princeton SA kickstarted South Valley Surf’s week in the 14U age group. It followed that victory with a 3-1 win against Dallas Cosmos in the quarterfinals. The semifinal against Las Vegas Surf provided one of the most dramatic games of the week in Oceanside, as South Valley held off a late push from Las Vegas — whose team had five Best XI selections — to force a penalty kick shootout. After several rounds of kicks, South Valley netted the final attempt to book its spot in the final.

The championship game against CDA Slammers provided another close contest for South Valley. Karra D’amato put the ball in the back of the net through a crowded 6-yard box to give South Valley Surf the lead in the 34th minute. The defense did the rest, as South Valley secured the clean sheet to win the 14U Girls title.

15U: South Valley Surf SC Elite 64 08G
South Valley Surf displayed an ability to thrive in close games in its run to the 15U Girls title. That began right away with a 2-1 win over Legends FC in the first game, and South Valley followed that with a 1-0 win against Pittsburgh Hotspurs in the quarterfinals. South Valley continued its stout defensive efforts in the semifinals to earn a 2-0 win against East County Surf.

The final provided more tense moments, as South Valley battled Libertyville FC 1974 for the title. Andrea Isola struck quickly for South Valley, as she blasted a shot into the far corner to put her side in front after just four minutes of play. South Valley worked hard to protect that lead, as Libertyville produced some threatening moments in attack in search of a tying goal. The equalizer never came, as South Valley held on for the 1-0 win to clinch the 15U Girls title.

16U: Legends FC (CA) Elite 64 07G
Legends used a dominant clean sheet win against Valor Soccer to begin its title run, and it followed with a 4-1 victory against Colorado Rapids in the quarterfinals. Utah Avalanche gave Legends a stiff test in the semifinals, as the sides played to a 1-1 draw in regulation. Legends earned a 5-4 victory in penalties, as Best XI goalkeeper Sierra Cordola made multiple saves.

The final against FC Premier was evenly matched and went well into the second half with the teams level at 0-0. However, Liliana Golphenee found the back of the net in the 64 minute to put Legends in front. Legends held off a late push from FC Premier to secure the 1-0 victory and claim the 16U title.

17U: FC Copa Academy Elite 64 06G
FC Copa stood up to every challenge it faced in Oceanside, beginning with a 4-2 win against LASC in its opening match. The New Jersey side defeated South Valley Surf, 3-1, in the quarterfinals before securing another 3-1 result over Colorado Rapids in the semifinals.

The final presented a rematch of the 2022 16U Girls USYS National Championship game against Libertyville FC 1974. After coming up short in penalties last year, FC Copa reversed the script and held off FC 1974 in another clash worthy of a championship final.

Best XI forward Hailey Santiago put FC Copa in front in the 35th minute before Lauren Bailey equalized for FC 1974 in the 58th minute. Santiago provided a quick response just five minutes later to help FC Copa regain the lead, and she completed a hat trick with a 69th-minute goal to extend the advantage to 3-1. Bailey looped in a 77th-minute goal to pull FC 1974 within one, but FC Copa held on in the frantic closing minutes to earn the 3-2 win for the 17U title.

19U: Los Angeles Soccer Club Elite 64 04/05G
A full team defensive effort and goalkeeping helped lift LASC to the 19U title, as the side did not concede a single goal across its four games in Oceanside. A dominant victory against CDA Slammers preceded a hard-fought 1-0 win against South Valley Surf on the final day of group play that clinched LASC’s spot in the final.

Pittsburgh Hotspurs SC provided a challenge in the championship game and had several threatening moments in the offensive half. However, LASC continued its stout defensive effort and received a go-ahead goal from Charlie Gallardo in the 30th minute. Madeline Traylor added an insurance goal in the 61st minute, and LASC managed to repel late pressure from Pittsburgh to ensure the 2-0 win for the title.

USYS National League Introduces Enhanced Format For National Events

FRISCO, Texas (April 7, 2023) — The US Youth Soccer National League is excited to introduce an evolved competition format and pathway for its national events, beginning in the 2023-24 seasonal year.

Info: Conference Pathway
Info: Elite 64 pathway

The new national event pathway will allow the very best teams from the National League’s club-based and team-based leagues to come together in a common, unified pathway. Every team attending national events will compete in meaningful games, with the ability to ultimately advance to the USYS National Championships.

“We cannot wait for the players and teams to experience the excitement and competitive atmosphere that will come with the enhanced competition format and pathway provided at our national events,” said Simon Collins, National League Commissioner. “We have listened to feedback from teams and clubs, and we’re confident this will lead to more meaningful games and a great atmosphere that will be even more appealing to all in attendance, including college coaches and scouts.”

Regular season league play — in the National League Conferences and Elite 64 — will provide teams with advancement into the national event pathway, beginning with either the Conference Playoffs or the Elite 64 Playoffs.

Based on performances at either the Conference Playoffs or the Elite 64 Playoffs, teams in the 14U-18/19U age groups will advance to National League P.R.O., where Conference teams and Elite 64 teams will compete against each other for the opportunity to qualify for the USYS National Championships.

Under this new format for national events, National League teams will enjoy several benefits of the evolved competition that enhance their overall experience:

  • Every regular season league game, whether in the Conferences or Elite 64, continues to be meaningful, as regular season performances determine qualification and placement into the national events.
  • Any time a team travels to a national event, it is guaranteed to play meaningful games with the chance to ultimately advance to the USYS National Championships.
  • Based on performance at its respective Playoff event, each advancing team is placed into an appropriate pool at its National League P.R.O. event — increasing the likelihood of all games being competitive and evenly-matched.
  • The 18U and 19U age groups will be combined across all National League competitions — creating more flexibility and a higher, more consistent competitive level in a combined 18/19U age group.
  • Each national event will feature either group or pool winners and encourage players to compete with a focus on team success.
  • A competitive environment with meaningful matches provides an ideal setting for college coaches and scouts to evaluate players.

More information on gameplay formats at the national events will be available later this spring.

All national events will be scheduled to reduce high school soccer conflicts, when possible. The Conference Playoffs will take place in early December, and teams advancing out of the Conference Playoffs will be assigned to one of two National League P.R.O. events — taking place in either late February or early May.

Half of the Elite 64 teams will attend an Elite 64 Playoff event in early November, with advancing teams moving on to the National League P.R.O. event in early May. The other half of Elite 64 teams will attend the Elite 64 Playoff event in mid-to-late January, with advancing teams moving on to the National League P.R.O. event in late February. All dates are subject to change.

Elite 64 teams in the 13U age group will not advance beyond the Elite 64 Playoffs.

In addition to the national events, all teams in the Conferences and Elite 64 will continue to have access to National League Regional Showcases. More Regional Showcase options are expected to be added in the coming season, allowing teams with additional opportunities to play showcase games closer to their home markets and prospective local college programs.

NL Greensboro Sees 27 Boys Teams Qualify For 2023 USYS National Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 29, 2023) — Several of the top 15U-19U Boys teams and players in the US Youth Soccer National League competed March 24-27 in Greensboro, N.C. The event featured teams from both National League P.R.O. and Elite 64.

The Elite 64 matches allowed players from US Youth Soccer’s top club-based league to compete against each other in unique matchups. Meanwhile, National League P.R.O. — the top team-based league in US Youth Soccer — featured games that saw league standings near their final form and teams secure berths to the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

During the action in Greensboro, 27 boys teams secured their place in the National Championships via National League P.R.O. One of those sides, 17U Washington United SC 06 (NJ), did so by climbing from mid-table to win its group, thanks to a dramatic win in its final game of the league season.

“All weekend we’ve had to fight, because we knew anything other than a win, we were most likely done,” said David Heil, head coach of Washington United. “Coming in today, facing last year’s national champ, (there was) a lot of intensity. They never doubted themselves. I couldn’t be more proud.

“We’re a small club from Jersey, so to make a name for ourselves and do what they did, it’s pretty amazing. We had the No. 1 team in the nation, No. 3 team in the nation, No. 5 team in the nation all in our bracket, so it’s pretty special.”

Recap some of the NL P.R.O. matchups and performances from Greensboro…

15U Boys

Potomac Premier I 08B (MD) did just enough to clinch NL P.R.O.’s 15U Group D title Sunday afternoon in an extremely competitive match against Rhode Island Surf 08B Elite (RI).

In a game filled with back-and-forth action and no shortage of drama, neither side could break down a strong opposition defense and separate each other by find a game-winning goal. There were large portions of the game played in the midfield, with the two teams evenly matched and proving that they were two of the group’s top sides.

That suited Potomac just fine, as the team that calls Maryland home needed only a draw to clinch the group’s top spot and a trip to Nationals in July. Group D was extremely competitive all throughout the year, so coming out on top was a well-deserved feat — and no easy task.

In Group C, Billy Goat FC 08 (KS) got a win in its last game to jump to the top of the standings and secure a first-place finish. Meanwhile, the Group E title will be decided when Brentwood SC 08 Premier Man City NL (NY-E) faces NY Hota Bavarian SC 08 Blue (NY-E) in the group’s lone remaining game.

16U Boys

On Saturday, 07 PTFC Triad Premier (NC) and Chicago Magic 2007 MCL (IL), two of NL P.R.O. 16U Group D’s top sides, went head to head.

Implications were high with just a few games left in the season — and these two high-scoring teams provided a thriller. Both teams were on the attack early, trading chances and getting up and down the field. Alessandro Mendoza Ortiz’s slick through ball from midfield to a streaking Cohen Muse, who finished the chance, put Piedmont Triad up first in the 14th minute.

Chicago Magic’s dominance with set pieces allowed them to respond quickly. Bogich Milosevic sent a corner in during the 19th minute that Ajdin Sabanovic met to level the teams, and then Milosevic added one of his own off a scramble in the box three minutes later to take the lead.

It was a tense second half with both teams pushing forward, but it was the Illinois side that found the next goal. Sabanovic’s second of the day gave the Magic a much-needed insurance goal and cemented the win. Chicago went on to secure the Group D title.

Elsewhere, eight points in Greensboro helped Titans FC Orozco B07 (CA-S) finish atop Group E, and Madison 56ers 07 Boys Red (WI) narrowly won Group F by one point over in-state foe Croatian Eagles Red 2007 (WI).

17U Boys

Needing a win or tie on Monday to clinch the 17U Group F title, Miami Breakers FC 2006B Black (FL) fought back — and then held on — to secure a 3-2 victory against Potomac Blue 06B (MD).

The Maryland side took a 34th-minute lead on a Brian Ignacio goal, but Miami responded shortly after when Joaquin Merlo cut back to his left foot and blasted a shot past the keeper. Merlo added his second shortly before halftime to give Miami a 2-1 lead at the break.

Despite going down to 10 men, the Breakers extended the lead to 3-1 on an 83rd-minute free kick from Fabrizio Bustos. An 85th-minute foul saw Miami go down to nine men, and Potomac capitalized on the ensuing free kick through Juan Cruz Markarian’s headed goal — cutting the Miami lead to 3-2. However, the Breakers held on in the final minutes to secure the win and first-place finish.

Monday also featured a dramatic matchup in Group D, which saw WUSC 06 (NJ) defeat CUP 06 Black (OH) in a must-win scenario to claim the group title. Meanwhile, the Group E title is still up for grabs, with the April 22 matchup between NYPFC 2006 Boys (NYE) and Brentwood SC 06 Premier United NL (NY-E) serving as the deciding factor.

18U Boys

A 1-0 win against Ronkonkoma Real FC (NY-E) on Sunday helped BVB International Academy Pittsburgh 05 Premier (PA-W) secure the NL P.R.O. 18U Group F title.

It took just seven minutes for BVB to take a lead, as Matthew Armenio found the back of the net to put the PA West side up, 1-0. Despite the early BVB goal, Real FC used physicality to slow down the BVB attack and keep the game in a one-goal margin.

Real FC — which entered the day in third place — pinned BVB in its own defensive half for periods late in the first half and through the final 45 minutes as the New York side searched for an equalizer. However, the BVB back line intervened on multiple occasions to block Real FC attempts on goal. The PA West side repelled some late pressure, including several corner kicks, to secure the shutout and win the group title.

In Group D, NLS Ajax 05 White (MD) is currently in first place, but Raiders FC 2005 (IL) has a chance to win the title if it can win its final game. Elsewhere, the Group E title went to Madison 56ers 05 Boys Red (WI), which held on for a draw against second-place Libertyville FC 1974 Elite 05 Boys (IL) to get the clinching point on Monday in Greensboro.

19U Boys

The top two teams in NL P.R.O. 19U Group D faced off on Friday to kick off their weekend in Greensboro, and the gameplay lived up to their standing. In a back-and-forth affair, LFA Phillips 2004B (MO) and SCS United 2004 Boys Black (PA-W) split the points in a 2-2 draw.

A few minutes after LFA keeper Andrew Klott saved a penalty to keep the game level, the Missouri side took a 1-0 lead when Samuel McCrary made a late run into the box and finished at the back post. LFA couldn’t maintain the advantage, as SCS United’s Beaux Lizewski equalized in the final minute of the first half.

SCS carried that momentum through the break and took a 48th-minute lead on a Seth Basinger strike. LFA later replied in the 77th minute when Tyler Eberlin found the back of the net — forcing the 2-2 draw. SCS went on to wrap up its time in Greensboro by recording two shutout wins, which left it in first place. The PA West side has one game left against CUP 04 NL (OH), which will decide the group winner.

Elsewhere, FC Bucks DOMINION 04 Boys (PA-E) won all three games in Greensboro to secure the Group C title.

GREENSBORO LOOK BACK: ELITE 64

15U Boys

PDA Elite 64 08B and Beadling SC Elite 64 08B each entered Sunday with a win and a draw in Greensboro, and the two sides battled to finish the weekend with an unbeaten mark. After a close contest, PDA scored a late penalty kick to secure a 1-0 victory.

Each team spent periods of play in the attacking half, as they searched for the all-important opening goal. The defenses held strong, as the game entered its final minutes — when PDA earned a 75th-minute free kick in a dangerous position.

Landon Hoenisch’s curling attempt was pushed over the bar by Beadling keeper William Guarino, but the ensuing corner kick led to a hand ball in the box. Hoenisch put his laces through the penalty kick attempt to find the back of the net and give PDA the 1-0 win — helping the New Jersey side to a 2-0-1 mark in Greensboro.

16U Boys

Boise Timbers | Thorns Elite 64 07B and Cedar Stars Academy North Elite 64 07B got the final day of National League Greensboro off on the right foot, providing an entertaining Elite 64 showcase match early Monday morning.

Two fast-paced offenses went head-to-head, with Boise using the speed of Kai Anitok up front to create havoc for a Cedar Stars Academy defense that had not surrendered a goal in its first two outings in North Carolina.

Cedar Stars took more control in the second half, allowing Alpha Bah to use his pace and skill on the wing. The breakthrough came in the 74th minute, with the New Jersey side drawing a penalty. Sebastian Vera stepped up to the spot and calmly converted his chance, finding the back of the net and breaking the deadlock.

Boise Timbers went on an all-out attack from that point on, trying to find the equalizer, but Cedar Stars capitalized on the Oregon team’s aggressiveness. Kieran Murray was played through on a breakaway in the 80th minute and slotted his shot past the keeper, giving CSA an insurance goal and locking in a last-game win.

17U Boys

After they each split their first two games in Greensboro, Toca FC Elite 64 06B and AYSO United Elite 64 06B went down to the wire in their matchup to close out the weekend. Despite some late chances for a winner at both ends, the two sides finished in a 1-1 draw.

AYSO took the lead in the 57th minute when Daniel Nadeau scored the game’s opening goal from a corner kick. Toca fought back and generated a tying goal, as Pierce Lysinger found the back of the net in the 65th minute.

The final five minutes of play saw both teams create scoring opportunities. Toca narrowly missed on a header at the near post off a corner kick, and AYSO couldn’t take advantage of a dangerous free kick and chance in the box. The final whistle sounded shortly after to lock in the 1-1 tie.

18/19U Boys

Determined efforts and quality play from at both ends of the field helped Ohio Galaxies FC Elite 64 04/05B complete a three-win weekend in Greensboro, as it defeated SC Wave Elite 64 04/05B, 3-0, on Sunday.

Both teams were unbeaten through two days in Greensboro, and it took 45 minutes to separate them, as Joshua Cline put Ohio in front shortly after the break. Ethan Reidy pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute when finished a squared ball from right winger Gavin Morningstar.

Wave had chances to cut into the deficit, but Galaxies sealed the 3-0 win in the final minutes when Nathan Buecker poked home the team’s third off a corner kick. Galaxies recorded nine goals while conceding none over its three games in Greensboro.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 21, 2023) — Several of the top 15U-19U Girls teams and players in the US Youth Soccer National League competed March 17-20 in Greensboro, N.C. The event featured teams from both National League P.R.O. and Elite 64, and all games took place at Bryan Park – Truist Soccer Complex.

The Elite 64 matches allowed players from US Youth Soccer’s top club-based league to compete against each other in unique matchups. Meanwhile, National League P.R.O. — the top team-based league in US Youth Soccer — featured games that saw league standings near their final form and teams begin to secure berths to the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

During the action in Greensboro, 18 girls teams secured their place in the National Championships via National League P.R.O., including defending National Champion 16U Wasatch SC 07G ZB (UT).

“It’s super important,” Wasatch coach Zach Burton said after his team secured a berth back to the National Championships on Saturday. “If we don’t win here, we don’t get the opportunity to defend our title. The girls came in focused today, ready to play. Everyone has the same goal, and everyone is trying to win and do their best. The team that performs the most precise has the best opportunity to win, and they did it well today.”

While Wasatch is heading back to Nationals in July to try to defend its 2022 title, other teams — and clubs — are looking forward to experiencing the National Championships for the first time. Coppermine SC Girls 2007 Elite 64 (MD) became the first team from Coppermine SC to qualify for the National Championships, and it did so while finishing in first place in National League P.R.O. 16U Group D.

“It took a lot of heart from our team,” Coppermine SC forward Laina Elliott said. “It took putting all we had into the game. We’ve been practicing to get to this moment. Being the first team to go to the National Championships out of Coppermine definitely feels good.”

Recap some of the NL P.R.O. matchups and performances from Greensboro…

15U Girls

Fighting to secure their place at Nationals, Group D top contenders FC Frederick 08 Girls (MD) and STA-MUSC 2008G NL (NJ) took the field Sunday morning in Greensboro.

It was a battle of wills as both sides fought furiously for dominance in the midfield through the first half, but neither team could find their rhythm in the attacking third. FC Frederick’s unrelenting defensive line, led by Molly Ward, thwarted several of STA’s offensive breakaways to keep the New Jersey side from getting a clear shot on frame.

Determined to find a goal, FC Frederick found their flow midway through the second half with quick transitions down the sidelines. Rebounding a save by STA’s keeper, Fiona Collins succeeded in providing the game’s lone goal in the final minutes to secure the Maryland side a 1-0 win. Results later in the day ensured that FC Frederick clinched the Group D title.

Elsewhere in 15U action, NJ Premier G2008 (NJ) conceded just two goals en route to a 7-0-0 record that allowed it to win the 15U Group C title.

16U Girls

Coppermine SC Girls 2007 (MD) maintained its lead atop the 16U Group D standings with a 2-0 win on Sunday against Team Challenger FC G07 Black (OH). The win marked Coppermine’s sixth in as many games, with each contest decided by two goals or less.

The Maryland side grabbed a 21st-minute lead through a Shyann Hansen goal, and it had to fend off several pushes for an equalizer from a threatening Team Challenger attack. Around the hour mark, Team Challenger’s Jordan Rowan forced the Coppermine keeper into a diving save to preserve the lead. Minutes later, the Maryland side doubled its advantage when Gabriela Colon wrapped her foot around a half volley from a tight angle and fired it into the far corner.

On Monday, Coppermine played a winner-take-all game against KHA North 2007G Red (OH). In another close contest, the Maryland side won, 2-1, to clinch the group title.

In Group E, Wasatch SC 07G ZB (UT) won all its games in Greensboro — including its final league game on Tuesday — to finish 6-0-1 and clinch the group title.

17U Girls

A shutout victory on Monday helped RUSA FC G06 Gold (NJ) maintain its lead atop the 17U Group E standings, as it finished its weekend in Greensboro with a 3-0 win against Commack Destroyers G06 (NY-E).

It took just three minutes for the New Jersey side to go in front, as Annabella Ramirez scored the opener to put RUSA on its way. Madeline Hicks made it 2-0 in the 35th minute when she hit a quick shot that slid just inside the left post.

Commack tried to cut into the lead, as it looked for a result to remain in the group’s top three, but RUSA sealed the victory in the 63rd minute. A hand ball led to a penalty kick that Mia Abbey tucked a into the right corner to cap the 3-0 win. The Group E title will be decided by remaining 7th games.

In 17U Group D, FC Revolution Reds 06 (PA-E) picked up a big win against then group leader NJ Premier G2006 (NJ) on the final day in Greensboro to move to the top of the standings, but remaining 7th games will be required to determine the title.

18U Girls

McLean YS Virginia Union 05 Girls (VA) completed a 7-0-0 Group C campaign by winning all three of its games in Greensboro. The Virginia side excelled on both ends of the field — conceding just one goal while scoring more than five per game.

Despite its strong season, McLean needed a result against second-place Patriots FC Girls 05 (NY-E) to secure the Group C title. Patriots, Legends IE G05 (CA-S) and NJ Nationals 2005 Girls Elite (NJ) claimed the groups other berths to the National Championships.

19U Girls

Hoosier FC 2004G Elite Wolves (IN) came away with a crucial three points on Friday night in a tight 19U Group C, as it secured a 4-1 win against FC Europa 2004 Elite (PA-E).

FC Europa grabbed the opening goal with a strike by Kiara White in the 9th minute. The Eastern Pennsylvania side’s lead lasted just 10 minutes, as a Hoosier player flew down the sideline and whipped a cross into the box for a goal. Capitalizing on their momentum, Indiana’s Sophie Shepard tallied her first — and Hoosier’s second — just one minute later.

Sheppard netted her second goal of the game to extend the Indiana side’s lead, but she wasn’t done just yet. A quick counterattack in the 73rd minute found Sheppard with the ball at her feet again. After beating the last defender, she sent in a rocket shot just outside the box to give her a hat trick and clinch a 4-1 victory.

Hoosier FC and FC Europa both secured one of Group C’s berths to the National Championships. FC Europa will play Penn FC Youth 04G Lightning (PA-E) in the teams’ 7th game, which will determine the group winner. Penn FC, which has also secured a place at Nationals, has been dominant this league season and has yet to concede a goal through five games.

GREENSBORO LOOK BACK: ELITE 64

15U Girls

East County Surf SC Elite 64 08G picked up its second win in Greensboro with a 1-0 victory against Western New York Flash Elite 64 08G on Saturday.

WNY Flash played to a scoreless draw in its first game, and the matchup with East County was another tightly contested one, as the teams went to the break level at 0-0. That scoreline changed in the 46th minute, as Surf managed to break through on a strike from Adrianna Elsass.

East County nearly doubled its lead shortly after scoring the opener, but WNY keeper Sierra Bianchi came up with a series of saves — including a double save on a breakaway and the follow-up effort. WNY produced a couple of chances as it pushed for the equalizer, but East County held on for the clean sheet and 1-0 win.

16U Girls

North Shore United Elite 64 07G and Pittsburgh Hotspurs SC Elite 64 07G took the field Monday morning looking to cap one last win for their respective unbeaten streaks in North Carolina before their journeys home.

The Hotspurs struck first courtesy of Briana Ross, whose 20th-minute goal pulled PHSC into a 1-0 lead. Eager to find an equalizer, the Wisconsin side picked up their pace of play in an effort to contain the action to their attacking third. A quick throw and cross found Madelynn Festering with the ball at her feet for a chip shot just over the keeper’s hands to give North Shore the tying point in the 25th minute.

With the Wisconsin defensive line pushing high, shortly after the start of the second half, Hotspurs slotted a through ball to Ross who once again knocked it into the back of the net.  North Shore generated several opportunities, but Pittsburgh held firm to secure a 2-1 finish.

17U Girls

FC Copa Academy Elite 64 06G, currently sitting second in the Northeast Conference, looked to continue their undefeated streak in their Monday matchup against third-ranked Great Lakes Conference foes Fort Wayne United FC Elite 64 06G.

Trying to put Fort Wayne’s feet to the fire, FC Copa applied high pressure from the first whistle to generate chances in front of the goal. Fort Wayne United kept their defensive composure, staying compact and not allowing any clear shots. In the 23rd minute, Hailey Santiago finally broke through and grabbed a goal to give FC Copa the lead.

A rapid play by the New Jersey midfield in the 81st minute created a give and go opportunity for Santiago once again, slipping her into the Indiana 18-yard box to smash a shot into the back of the net. FC Copa’s unwavering defensive line kept Indiana’s late half advances at bay to finish out the match with a 2-0 victory.

18/19U Girls

Looking to continue their unbeaten streak, Team Boca Elite 64 04/05G squared off with Northeast conference foe FC Copa Academy Elite 64 04/05G to kick off games on Saturday in Greensboro.

Team Boca came close to pulling ahead late in the first half by creating several goal scoring opportunities. Reading the flow of play Copa’s Maura Chawner made numerous big plays shutting down the Florida side’s advances.

Coming out of halftime each side generated breakaways deep into the opposition’s defensive third. An Amalia Holman strike finally landed in the 60th minute to give Team Boca the lead. Keeping the momentum going for Boca, Charlotte Bullen found the back of the net again just two minutes later. Playing until the last whistle was blown Florida’s Hannah Pahl captured a goal in the 89th minute to end the match as a 3-0 victory.

Elite 64: A look at top performing boys clubs

As Elite 64 boys teams across the country reach the heart of the Spring 2023 season, many of the races for the top of the standings are intensifying. With Elite 64 sides contending for spots in the top pools of the Elite 64 National Finals, there are important points on the line from coast to coast.

Take a look at which boys clubs and teams have positioned themselves well through the fall and winter months of the 2022-23 Elite 64 season:

Northeast | Southeast | South | Great Lakes | Midwest | Desert | Pacific | Northwest | National Events

NORTHEAST

Following the fall high school soccer season, the 15U through 19U age groups are just beginning their league seasons in the Northeast, while the 13U and 14U age groups have completed about half their Elite 64 games. In those younger age groups, STA sits atop both sets of standings. STA 10B has secured points from several close games, while the club’s 2009 team has six wins and three ties from its first nine games.

PDA has also had a strong start as a club, with five total teams in the top half of their respective standings. The 16U and 19U teams from PDA are each in first place in their groups after playing three games, while the 17U side is currently in second place.

Princeton SA is also off to a strong start across several age groups, led by its 2006 side that has started 3-0-0 to pace the 17U age group. The 13U, 15U and 16U age groups all Princeton in second place, with just a few goals separating those teams from the top spot.

The 15U age group is led by Cedar Stars Academy 08B, which is off to a 2-0-0 start. Cedar Stars also has a couple teams — its 14U and 19U sides — in second place as they head into the busy spring schedule.

SOUTHEAST

Game totals vary across the Southeast, but many teams have reached their halfway point. As a club, United FA has played a majority of its games and made the most of its opportunities. The Georgia club has three teams at the top of their standings — leading the 13U, 15U and 16U age groups — to go along with two teams currently in second place.

Southern Soccer Academy has also had a strong showing to this point, and it’s led by its 14U side that is off to an undefeated start to the year and in first place. SSA’s 13U and 16U teams are in second place, and it also has a couple teams in that are sitting in third place.

AFC Lightning (17U) and IMG Academy (19U) each have one team in first place, while Charlotte SA’s 19U side is undefeated and in second place — one point back of IMG — with plenty of games left to play.

SOUTH

Two clubs are mainstays near the top of the standings in the South after the fall and winter months. Lobos Rush leads the group with three teams in first place, as its teams are on top of the 13U, 14U and 17U age groups. Its 14U side is off to an especially strong start, as it’s 9-0-0. Lobos is also in second place in the 15U and 16U age groups, as all of its teams are in contention for making the top pool at the Elite 64 National Finals.

El Paso Locomotive joins Lobos at the top of many of the South standings. El Paso leads the 15U and 19U age groups, and its teams are in second place in the 13U and 14U age groups. Locomotive’s 16U and 17U teams are each in third place, with games in hand that could allow them to move up the standings.

Tigres San Antonio occupies a pair of the remaining Top 2 spots across all the age groups, as its 16U team has a narrow lead atop the standings and its 17U team is in second place.

GREAT LAKES

The Great Lakes group has been busy since November, and many teams still have at least half their games remaining. Cincinnati United has enjoyed an all-around strong start as a club through its first half of the schedule, as the Ohio club is in the Top 3 of each set of standings — including four teams in first place. Each of the 15U-19U age groups have Cincinnati United at the top, with three of the teams still unbeaten.

With one first-place team and a pair of teams currently in second, Ohio Galaxies FC is also off to a successful start to its Elite 64 season. Galaxies’ 2010 side is 7-0-0 in the 13U age group and will look to continue that momentum when it starts its spring slate of games later this month. Michigan Tigers are just three points back of the Galaxies and own the 13U age group’s most potent offense, averaging over four goals per game.

Four points from two recent games helped Liverpool FC-IA Michigan 09B extend its lead atop the 14U age group. And despite no current first-place sides, Indiana Fire Academy has also had a good overall showing — with two teams currently in second place and another pair sitting in third place.

MIDWEST

The boys clubs in the Midwest are all still in the early stages of their Elite 64 schedules, and the next couple of months will be filled with exciting matchups that influence the final standings.

The early portions of the season have resulted in Toca FC having a team on top of four of the six age groups. The club’s 13U and 15U sides are each 4-0-0, while the 16U team has three wins and a draw. With much the season remaining, Toca will have work to do to maintain those places atop the standings.

The 14U and 19U age groups are led by Libertyville FC 1974 and Sporting Blue Valley, respectively. Each club also has a couple additional teams in the Top 3 of their age groups.

Meanwhile, several of Galaxy SC’s teams have games in hand on their group leaders, yet the club has four teams that are currently in second place. The extra games could help the Galaxy sides make moves into the Top 2 as the season progresses.

DESERT

There is a common theme at the top of many of the Desert standings, as Sparta United currently occupies first place in five of the six age groups and second place in the remaining age group. Sparta has benefited from a busier early schedule, but the Utah club has taken advantage of its opportunities while securing a majority of available points. Four of Sparta’s teams are unbeaten and have proved they deserve an early place atop the tables.

Utah Soccer Alliance isn’t far behind Sparta, as it has five teams in the Top 2 of their respective standings. Utah SA 04/05B is in first place in the 19U age group after a 9-0-1 start, and its teams are behind only Sparta in the 13U, 14U, 16U and 17U age groups.

The lone remaining spot in the current Top 2 is held by Colorado Rapids Youth SC, whose 15U side is 4-1-0 and in position to challenge Sparta if it can take advantage of its games in hand.

PACIFIC

With many teams approaching the halfway point of their Pacific campaign, Strikers FC North has produced the best start of any club. Strikers currently has three teams in first place — in the 15U, 16U and 17U age groups — while another two sides are in second place.

Two teams from Los Angeles Soccer Club have also stood out. The 14U side is in first place with a 6-0-1 record, and LASC’s 04/05 team has picked up 15 of 18 possible points to lead the 19U age group.

Legends FC has four teams in the top half of the tables, led by its 13U side that currently in first place. AYSO United features two second-place teams, while CDA Slammers has one team currently in second.

NORTHWEST

With all of its games played across all age groups, Oregon Premier FC completed a clean sweep of the age group titles in the Northwest. OPFC’s 14U and 19U teams won all of their games to pick up the maximum possible points, while its 15U side tied twice in an unbeaten season. Across all age group, OPFC averaged just over 2.5 goals per game, while conceded just below 0.5 goals per game.

With some games left to play in all age group, Boise Timbers|Thorns currently has two teams in second place, and another four in third place. With success in its remaining games, Boise could potentially finish with five total runners-up.

Idaho Rush SC is in contention for some of those second-place spots, with two teams currently in second and another pair in third place. Valor Soccer also currently occupies two second-place positions.

NATIONAL EVENTS

Elite 64 teams have had the opportunity to play matches outside of their regular season groups while competing at national events during the fall and winter. Take a look at the clubs that have secured the most points per game from all games played across the events in Round Rock, Orlando, Mesa and Tampa. The list below features clubs that have combined for at least nine games played during national events.

Elite 64: A look at top performing girls clubs

As teams across the country reach the heart of the Spring 2023 season, many of the races for the top of the Elite 64 group standings are intensifying. With Elite 64 sides contending for spots in the top pools of the Elite 64 National Finals, there are important points on the line from coast to coast.

Take a look at which girls clubs and teams have positioned themselves well through the fall and winter months of the 2022-23 Elite 64 season:

Northeast | Southeast | South | Great Lakes | Midwest | Desert | Pacific | Northwest | National Events

NORTHEAST

The older ages have yet to play a majority of their schedules, but Coppermine SC has had a strong start across several age groups. It’s currently in the Top 2 in the 14U, 16U and 17U age groups and is just one point back of second place in the 13U age group.

Boston Bolts and Match Fit Academy are currently first and second, respectively, in the 13U age group, which has seen teams play just over half of their games. Bayside FC holds a narrow lead over Coppermine in the 14U age group, while Match Fit and Princeton SA just outside the Top 2. Princeton SA is also off to a solid start in the 19U age group.

SOUTHEAST

Team Boca is having success across all age groups in the Southeast, as its teams are currently on top of the standings in the 13U, 14U, 15U, 17U and 19U age groups. The Florida side has lost just three times in 23 games as a club.

In the 16U age group, Team Boca is currently in second place behind Atlanta Fire United. The two met in September, when Atlanta secured a 4-2 win that gave it the advantage in the standings.

United Futbol Academy is just behind the first-place Team Boca teams, as its squads are in second place in the 13U, 14U, 15U, 17U and 19U age groups.

SOUTH

The youngest age groups in the South each have Dallas Cosmos sitting on top of the standings. Dallas Cosmos 10G has yet to concede a goal through a 3-0-0 start, while the 14U side has also displayed a stout defense during its six games. The 15U team began its season with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Rush Select South before three straight wins helped it climb the standings.

Rush Select South has several teams near the top of the standings, with its sides in the 16U and 19U age groups currently in first place, while its 13U team sits in second place. FC Westlake also has four teams in second place across the various age groups.

With several games to play as a club, Lobos Rush has a few unbeaten teams in position to make moves up the table before the standings are finalized.

GREAT LAKES

Several 13U and 14U teams are past the halfway point of their Great Lakes campaigns, while most of the older age groups are nearing their midway point in March.

A common theme across all of the age groups is GTFC Impact at the top of the standings. Impact is currently in first place in five age groups — 14U through 19U — and in third place in the 13U age group. The 14U side leads the pack, as it is 10-0-0 thanks to an attack that’s averaging just over three goals per game.

Indiana Fire occupies the top spot in the 13U age group, as its 2010 side has won each of its first eight game while conceding just twice. As a club, four of the Fire’s six teams are in the top half of their respective standings.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh Hotspurs have two undefeated teams — in the 16U and 19U age groups — that are currently in second place but on pace to contend with GTFC for first place. Western New York Flash, Total Futbol Academy and Kings Hammer each have one team apiece that’s currently in second place.

MIDWEST

The Midwest had a fall-heavy schedule in the older age groups, which has left the standings close to final. Chicago Inter has enjoyed the most success, as it has three teams in first place — topping the standings in the 14U, 17U and 19U age groups. The 14U and 17U teams have yet to drop any points in league play.

Galaxy SC and Libertyville FC 1974 are each equally represented in the Top 2, as they have three teams apiece in those positions. Galaxy is led by its 2008 side, which has gone 12-0-0 in the 15U age group while conceding just one goal. Libertyville FC 1974 07G is in first place in the 16U age group thanks to several tight victories in a very close group.

North Shore United 10G are in first place in the 13U age group after a dominant 8-0-0 start to its season, while JB Marine and Madison 56ers each have one team in Top 2 positions.

DESERT

Colorado Rapids Youth SC can be found near the top of most standings for the Desert group, including in first place in the 14U, 16U and 17U age groups. The Rapids also have second-place squads in the 15U and 19U age groups — meaning five of the club’s teams are in position to compete in the top pool at the Elite 64 National Finals.

Arsenal Colorado isn’t too far behind, as its teams are evenly dispersed among the Top 3 spots across all the Desert standings. Arsenal has first-place teams in the 15U and 19U age groups, to go along with two teams in second place and another pair in third place.

The remaining first-place side comes from Utah Soccer Alliance, which has seen its 2010 team start 6-0-0 in the 13U Girls age group. Meanwhile, Real Colorado 10G is in second place in that age group and is one of two teams from the club — along with the 2006 team — that are currently in the Top 2 of their respective standings.

PACIFIC

With about half of the games played in the Pacific, there is plenty of parity among the clubs. The top spot in the six age groups is currently occupied by a team from five different clubs, as CDA Slammers is the lone club to have two teams in first place. Slammers’ 2008 and 2006 sides are currently in first in the 15U and 17U age groups, respectively, while the club has another three teams in the top half of their standings.

East County Surf, Legends FC and Los Angeles SC each have one first-place team and one second-place team in the current standings. East County SC 10G is on top in the 13U age group, Legends FC 07G is in first place in the 16U age group, and Los Angeles SC 04/05G is leading the 19U age group. The remaining first-place team comes from Las Vegas Surf, whose 2009 side has been dominant in league play and at showcases during the fall and winter months.

Meanwhile, despite having no teams occupying first place, South Valley Surf has put in solid performances as a club — with three teams in second place and three teams in third place.

NORTHWEST

The Northwest group will be kicking off its first games this spring.

Top 15U-19U Boys teams compete at National League Orlando 2022

ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2022) — Many of the top 15U-19U Boys teams and players in the US Youth Soccer National League competed Dec. 1-5 in Orlando, Florida. The event featured teams from both National League P.R.O. and Elite 64, and all games took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The National League P.R.O. games each counted toward league standings, as teams began their pursuits of top-of-the-table finishes that can result in direct advancement to the 2023 USYS National Championships. Combined with the excitement of top talent from Elite 64 clubs matching up during the weekend, National League Orlando provided a great atmosphere for youth soccer.

The weekend in Orlando featured many close games with little separating the teams. In National League P.R.O., the start of the season for 15U FC Dallas ETX 08 Garcia (TX-N) captured the essence of the league as the side has split its first four games while scoring seven goals and conceding seven.

“To be able to come to an event like this and compete against the best teams in the country, it really means a lot and shows what kind of heart these kids have,” FC Dallas ETX coach Michael Garcia said after his team’s win on Dec. 1. “For the kids, it really shows them they can compete against any teams in the country and —  not just in soccer, but when they come across adversity in life — they’re able to step up and know they can push through.”

Recap some of the NL P.R.O. matchups and performances from Orlando…

15U Boys

In Group C, SBLGN Wildlings Blue 2008 (NY-E) came away with three wins from three games to match FCE-LMSC 08 Thunder (PA-E) at nine points in the standings. A Dec. 3 matchup of 2-0-0 teams saw SBLGN Wildlings Blue 2008 (NY-E) pick up a key 2-0 win against Billy Goat FC 08 (KS) to pick up a key three points in the title race.

LGN controlled much of the first half, but the best early chance came on a Billy Goat counter that saw the LGN keeper pressure the shooter into placing the shot wide.

After an event start to the second half, LGN went back on the front foot and broke through when Ethan Kyle sent in a cross that worked its way to Eli Rubio, who finished from close range. LGN later added an insurance goal when a long free kick took a deflection and found the back of the net — helping the Eastern New York side move to 3-0-0 on the season.

16U Boys

La Roca Milla SC (UT) went 3-0-0 to go to the top of the 16U Boys Group C standings. The Utah side was strong all around, and it did not concede a goal in its three games.

“That’s one particular thing that I like about this league. We are here because we deserve it,” La Roca coach Jose Milla said. “We have worked for it, and we have earned our place. It means a lot to the boys that we had to fight hard from the state and regional level in order to get to this point and be part of this league.

“It’s an opportunity to prepare us to go to the National Championships, but it also gives the boys an opportunity to teach them principles that can be applied to the soccer field and also outside of it.”

17U Boys

Dix Hills EST Ultimatum B2006 (NY-E) held on for a 4-2 win against Arsenal FC of Pittsburgh 06B Academy (PA-W) in NL P.R.O. 17U Group C action.

A set piece led to Dix Hills’ first goal, as Lukas Sheridan powered a header just under the bar in the 14th minute. Owen Caraftis doubled the advantage a few minutes later, but Anthony Powell pulled a goal back for Arsenal later in the half.

Nathan Hough helped Dix Hills regain a two-goal lead with a 67th-mintue header, but Powell once again answered for Arsenal when he finished a quick strike on a loose ball in the box. However, Dix Hills added a late goal from Garfield Gillespie to seal the 4-2 victory — helping the New York side grab sole possession of first place after three games.

18U Boys

Olympiacos FC Academy B05 (CA-S) secured an undefeated week in Orlando with a 3-1 win against New England Surf State Sky (MA) in National League P.R.O. 18U Group E play on Monday.

The Cal-South side, whose offensive prowess was clear in all three games, went on the attack early to find the opening goal. Osvaldo Hernandez and Alexander Monjaraz both nearly broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, but their attempts were nixed — one by the post and the other a great save.

Jordi Pineda finally brought Olympiacos in front in the 36th minute after pouncing on a loose ball in the box after Emilliano Medina’s shot hit the post. Evan Lozano doubled the lead five minutes later with a powerful long-distance strike minutes before the half.

Surf came out of the break with more energy and a desire to level the game, and Aagam Prakash brought his team within one with a goal in the 75th minute. Olympiacos stifled the rest of Surf’s chances and Pineda added his second in the 89th minute, which put this one out of reach.

19U Boys

FC Bucks Dominion 04 Boys (PA-E) fought for a 1-0 win against J Petrov Academy Red (FL) to gain sole possession of first place in 19U Boys Group C after one weekend of play.

Little separated the unbeaten NL P.R.O. sides for much of the game, but Dominion produced a winner in the 77th minute. A deflected shot bounced to Liam Hartman in the center of the J Petrov penalty area, and he used an acrobatic finish to direct a shot past the keeper for the game’s lone goal.

“You know every single minute you’ve got to work hard,” Dominion defender Shane Velez said of NL P.R.O. games. “If you turn off, that play at the end of the game, they could go down and tie it up and then we’re crawling back to battle for that top spot to get through to Nationals. Being able to get through National League and win it is so big heading into the spring season.”

Recap some of the Elite 64 matchups that took place in Orlando…

15U Boys

Michigan Jaguars Elite 64 08B and Boston Bolts Elite 64 08B squared off early Friday morning in Orlando, with both teams looking to pick up a momentum-building win in Elite 64 action.

Michigan Jaguars took control of the game early, with Grant Mooradian converting a chance in the fifth minute to open the scoring. The Jaguars added two more in quick succession, courtesy of Jack Fedell and Max Hunter in the 21st and 22nd minutes, to break open the match.

Dylan Hart brought one back for the Boston Bolts in the 27th minute, but his side would concede just before halftime with a goal from the Jaguars’ Wyatt Egan, adding to an already-frenetic first half full of goals. Both defenses settled in during the second half and kept the score as is for the remainder of the match, giving the Michigan Jaguars an impressive victory.

In their mini group in Orlando, AFC Lightning Elite 64 08B managed to come away with three wins while outscoring opponents, 6-to-0.

16U Boys

Sparta United Elite 64 07B and Michigan Jaguars Elite 64 07B entered Monday’s action as part of a quartet of Elite 64 teams that played several very close games in Orlando. With every game having previously ended in a draw or a one-goal margin, it was no surprise when Sparta and Michigan played to a 1-1 draw in their final game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Lucas Stan opened the scoring with a strike in the 27th minute, as the Jaguars went in front. That lead lasted just 13 minutes of game action, as Sparta replied in the 40th minute when Anthony Pimentel Silva found the back of the net.

Sparta nearly produced a game-winner with the game’s final play, but Michigan’s Luke Dziadosz made a last-ditch slide tackle on a Sparta near-post run to help secure the 1-1 draw. Sparta finished with draws in all three games in Orlando, while the Jaguars tied twice.

17U Boys

IMG Academy Elite 64 06B and Los Angeles Soccer Club Elite 65 06B squared off at National League Orlando on Sunday night, one day after both picked up points during their first matches on Saturday.

IMG opened up the scoring in the first half with two goals in quick succession. Joaquin Ojeda struck first in the 26th minute, and Aiden Tempro added to IMG’s lead five minutes later with a goal of his own to give his side a cushion heading into the break.

LASC, down two and needing a big comeback to leave with points, ramped up the pressure and turned on the offensive to find goals. IMG stayed poised in defense and stifled any and all chances that were thrown at them to walk away with a shutout victory — their second in as many days.

IMG finished the weekend in Orlando with two wins and a draw.

18/19U Boys

In a matchup of two teams that won their first two games in Orlando, Rockford Raptors FC Elite 64 04/05B and Ohio Galaxies FC Elite 64 04/05B entered their Dec. 3 contest with much to play for.

Rockford struck first, an early third-minute goal from Saiheed Jah that broke open the game and gave them momentum. Juan Lopez doubled the Raptors’ lead in the 40th minute, a nice one-touch finish from a low cross to give them a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Saiheed added a second of his own, and Rockford’s third, in the 64th minute to cement the victory and a 3-0 weekend in Orlando. Noah Deakyne brought one back for his side late in the game, a perfectly converted penalty after Jayden Williams earned the Ohio Galaxies the spot kick, but the game finished shortly after.
