Midwest Conference fall standings nearly finalized after St. Louis weekend

ST. LOUIS (Oct. 29, 2024) – More than 70 girls teams competed in St. Louis during an impactful weekend of USYS National League Midwest Conference action. The games at Creve Coeur Park saw several teams earn key late-season results, as many of the division standings neared their final state.

The first-place finishers in the Premier 1 divisions of the Midwest Conference will secure berths to the 2025 USYS Midwest Regional Championships. In the 13U-17U age groups, the division winners will also earn automatic qualification for the next season’s USYS National League Quarterfinals.

A 3-0 win in St. Louis helped MO Rush 09G Premier Blue (MO) complete a perfect 6-0-0 season in a first-place campaign in the 16U Girls Premier 1 division. That marked the Missouri side’s best finish after playing the last few years in the top division of the Midwest Conference.

“The league has good competitiveness from top to bottom,” MO Rush coach Jeffrey Goddard said. “We have been in Premier 1 every year and prefer this league because it’s the only league that requires individual teams to qualify to stay or be relegated.

“This group of girls have achieved a lot over the past three seasons and having another chance to make Regionals and Nationals has made the season special.”

Take a look at where the Premier 1 division stand following the exciting weekend of action in St. Louis…

13U Girls

Portage SC 2012G Green (MI) won the Premier Blue division, with a 5-2 win against second-place Nationals Genesee 12 Girls Black (MI) serving as the deciding result. Meanwhile, Rush Union WI 2012 Girls Premier (WI) went 6-1-1 to finish first in the Premier White division and DASC 12G Dortmund 1 (SD) won the Premier Yellow division.

The results of the 13U Premier 1 divisions during the Spring 2025 season will determine the Regional Championships representative and qualifiers for next season’s National League Quarterfinals.

14U Girls

Despite a 2-1 defeat to REAL WC St. Louis Elite 11G (MO) at Creve Coeur, CarShield FC 11G Academy NL (MO) held on to secure a first-place finish in the Premier 1 division. CarShield excelled in pressure situations, as it secured four wins and a draw while every one of its games was decided by a goal or less.

15U Girls

PASS FC 2010G (MI) picked up a win and a draw in St. Louis, as it capped its title-winning campaign in the Premier 1 division. The Michigan side went undefeated, as it compiled six wins and a tie while conceding just three goals in its seven games.

“We have invested a lot of time in our team’s development over the past year, so it is definitely satisfying to get these strong results,” PASS FC coach Glenn Turek said. “The conference has been very competitive this year. There were no easy games. It absolutely is fun to have to have spots in Regionals on the line. It is something to shoot for with each game.”

16U Girls

MO Rush 09G Premier Blue (MO) completed a 6-0-0 fall season to win the Premier 1 division. Rush secured four shutout victories, capped by a 3-0 win during the action in St. Louis.

17U Girls

By earning four points from its two games in St. Louis, United Springfield Academy 08G (MO) remained alive in the Premier 1 division title hunt with three games left to play. One of its remaining matchups is against unbeaten Plymouth Reign 08G (MI), which has four games to play and is currently tied on 7 points in the standings with Springfield. Both teams are pursuing current leader Libertyville FC 1974 Elite 08G (IL), which has 15 points after playing its full schedule.

19U Girls

All is still to play for in the Premier 1 division, as four teams are alive for the top spot with one game apiece left to play. The biggest remaining game features the two sides tied for first place, as JB Marine Garabedian Gold 06G (MO) will take on TSC 2007G Navy (KS). The winner of that contest will claim the division title. Should they tie, they’d leave the door open for Wheaton United 2006G Academy (IL) or Toca FC G2006/07 Elite (KS) to potentially jump into the top spot with a win in their final game.

Fall 2023 season comes to a close in the Midwest

The USYS Midwest Conference wrapped up an exciting fall season that saw teams clinch spots in the USYS Midwest Regional Championships, as well as secure promotion within the conference for the Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 seasons.

The Midwest Conference utilizes a promotion and relegation system between Premier I and Premier II divisions based on the team’s performance on the field during the previous season.

Many age groups saw heavily contended division champion title runs, with first, second, and third place determined by the difference in one game and one goal between them. One such group was the 14U Boys Premier II Blue division, where three teams — Millennium Soccer Academy 10B Black (IN), EBU Elite 2010B Elite 64 (WI), and HDS Eagles 2010 (IL) — were separated by one point for first place, and the second-place tiebreaker came down to a 1-0 win in a head-to-head matchup.

Two 19U Girls Premier I Divisions also included notable title races. The top two teams from each division, Wheaton United 2006G Academy (IL) from the 19U Premier I Black Division and JB Marine Thunder 2005G (MO) from 19U Premier I Red Division, battled their way through their individual divisions to face off in a playoff matchup. JB Marine clinched the match to move on as the National League representative to compete at the 2024 Midwest Regional Championships in June.

Throughout the fall, the Midwest Conference held several conference-hosted event weekends that allowed numerous teams to come together to play league matches, including a new event weekend hosted in collaboration with Iowa Soccer Association in Bettendorf, Iowa, at a new premier venue, TBK Bank Sports Complex.

Conference Titles Clinched at Meet In The Middle Showcase

WESTFIELD, Ind. (May 16, 2023) — More than 120 teams competed May 12-14 in the Meet in the Middle Showcase at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Ind. The event featured several unique showcase matchups, in addition to many teams from the Great Lakes Conference and Midwest Conference playing crucial end-of-season games.

In addition to competing for division titles, the National League teams playing in either Club vs. Club or Premier I Division matchups also took the field with potential berths to the USYS Midwest Regional Championships or next season’s National League Conference Playoffs on the line.

“There’s some good competition here, so to win all of our games and book a spot to Regionals is awesome,” said JB Marine 06B (MO) goalkeeper Alex Drexler following his team’s first-place finish in the Midwest 16U Boys Club vs. Club Division. “Winning here feels great for the confidence going into State Cup, Regionals and Nationals.”

Meanwhile, some Premier II Division teams had the opportunity to achieve promotion to Premier I for next year — earning the opportunity to advance further along the National League pathway.

“Finishing the [Premier II] season undefeated at 9-0, with getting promotion into Premier I, was an excellent accomplishment for the team,” said James Ortlip, coach of Ambassadors FC 08G (OH), which won its Great Lakes 15U Girls Premier II Division. “I think the European model is great, with promotion and relegation. You’ve got to earn your spot. We were put in the bottom division, and we had to earn our way to the top. It was worth it, and there’s definitely a sense of accomplishment for the players because it was something that was not just given — they had to earn it every single game of the season.”

All teams in the National League will have the opportunity to access a recently announced unified pathway that brings the best teams together at national events for a chance to qualify to the annual USYS National Championships.

Check out the top-tier division teams from the Great Lakes and Midwest Conferences that were able to clinch their division titles during the action at Grand Park.

Division Races heat up After Busy Midwest Conference Weekend In St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (May 8, 2023) — The USYS Midwest Conference saw more than 120 games played this past weekend at Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex in St. Louis, as teams jockeyed for position in many tight division title races.

The Midwest Conference is one of 13 conferences in the USYS National League. Its top tier divisions — both team-based (Premier I) and club-based — provide teams with an opportunity to advance to the USYS National Championship Series, as well as to qualify for next season’s National League Conference Playoffs.

The action in St. Louis included boys teams in the 13U-19U age groups, along with girls teams in the 13U and 14U age groups. Many of the competing teams either concluded their conference schedule during the weekend or have just a few games remaining.

Take a look at some notable results and division outlooks following the games at Creve Coeur Park:

  • KCL Academy Red 2010 (KS) completed a 6-1-0 season in the 13U Girls Premier I Division by picking up six of nine possible points in St. Louis. Its lone loss came to Ajax FC Naperville 2010 Girls Red (IL), which is just three points back of KCL with two games remaining.
  • After a big win on Saturday, Ponys F.C. 2010 (IL) secured a 2-0 victory on Sunday to move to 5-0-0 in the 13U Boys Premier I Division. It has a chance to clinch the title with a win or draw in its next game.
  • Just six points separates first from eighth in the 14U Girls Premier I Division after a very competitive weekend of action in St. Louis. Group leader KCL Academy Red 2009 NL (KS) suffered its first two losses while at Creve Coeur, including a 1-0 defeat to Galaxy SC 2009 MWC (IL). Galaxy could move into first place with wins in its final two games.
  • LFA Blue Star 2008B (MO) was dominant in its lone matchup at Creve Coeur, as it won to keep pace with STLDA 2008B Academy Navy (MO) atop the 15U Boys Club vs. Club Division.
  • KC Legends Billy Goat FC 08 (KS) traveled to St. Louis needing to earn two wins and make gains in goal differential to win the 15U Boys Premier I Division. It accomplished both tasks — winning its games by a combined score of 9-to-1 — as it clinched a first-place finish.
  • A couple of close wins helped LFA Blue Star 2007B (MO) gain a slim advantage in the 16U Boys Club vs. Club Division. LFA shut out previous group leader JB Marine Academy Baum 07B (MO) 1-0, on Saturday and now holds a 1-point edge over JB Marine in the standings.
  • SCOR Meulensteen 07 Black (MI) had a busy — and very successful — weekend in St. Louis that saw it earn three shutout victories. The nine points helped it move to the top of the 16U Boys Premier I Division, and it will aim to maintain that spot with two games left to play.
  • Two wins at Creve Coeur allowed JB Marine Academy McKeon 2006B (MO) to move to 5-0-0 in the 17U Boys Club vs. Club Division.
  • The 17U Boys Premier I Division included some very close games at the top of the table in St. Louis. CFYSC 2006B Premier (IL) moved to 5-0-0 with a pair of wins by one-goal margins, but it still has some work to do to clinch the group title.
  • STLDA 2005B Wipke (MO) won both of its games in St. Louis to remain unbeaten in the 18U Boys Club vs. Club Division. STLDA has a one-point edge on EBU Elite 05B EA (WI) in the standings, but EBU has a game in hand. The two face off on May 14 in a game that could decide the group winner.
  • Libertyville FC 1974 Elite-05 Boys (IL) battled for a tight win on Saturday before a more decisive win on Sunday, as it moved to 6-0-0 in the 18U Boys Premier I Division.
  • Two wins at Creve Coeur helped LFA Williams 2004B (MO) improve to 5-0-0 in the 19U Boys Club vs. Club Division. LFA has shown the ability to win close games, with four of its victories decided by two goals or fewer.

Midwest Conference Fall 2022 standings taking shape

FRISCO, Texas (Oct. 12, 2022) — Many of the Fall 2022 division standings in the US Youth Soccer Midwest Conference are beginning to take shape, with several teams using strong play to separate themselves in the title races.

Teams in the top-tier divisions (Premier I and Club vs. Club) of the Midwest Conference are competing for the opportunity to advance to the 2023 USYS Midwest Regional Championships and earn automatic qualification for the 2023-24 season of National League P.R.O.

The Midwest Conference fall season primarily features girls teams in the 13U-19U age groups, while the boys teams primarily compete in the spring season.

An update from the Club vs. Club Divisions…

With a varying number of games remaining in each age group of the Club vs. Club Divisions, Chicago FC United (IL) finds its teams at or near the top of most standings.

The 17U, 18U and 19U age groups all currently have Chicago FC United sitting at the top of the table, while its 16U team is currently in a tie for second place. The Chicago FC United 08 Girls are also in the top half of the standings, as they are currently fourth in the 15U Girls age group.

Chicago FC United Girls Director Sean Palacios said he’s happy with his teams’ performances and acknowledged the importance of playing at a consistently high level across a full season.

“For the past few years, the competition we have seen in the Midwest Conference has forced our players to be open to a growth mindset, and it is really showing in our teams’ and players’ performances,” Palacios said. “The competition in the Midwest is second to none, and it is great to see the success across all age groups as it shows the consistency in our player development module.”

The Chicago FC United players are working hard at trainings to remain focused and maintain a sharpness in their play during games. Palacios said having the opportunities for advancement to National League P.R.O. and the Midwest Regionals within the conferences provide “driving forces of motivation.”

“To be able to compete and earn a shot at a Regional Championship is something our club strives for each year and with every team,” Palacios said. “The Midwest has a long tradition of high-level clubs, and our players always want to compete against the top teams across the country, as well. The more competitive matches we can be a part of, year-round, only enhances our players’ drive to put in the work daily. We take a lot of pride in earning spots in the most competitive events and playing on the regional and national stage.”

An update from the Premier I Divisions…

In the 15U Girls Premier I Division, KC Fusion Academy 08 (KS) secured a 2-0 win this past weekend, and it has a six-point lead atop the standings with one game left to play. Through six games, the Kansas side has dropped just two points — in a 1-1 draw to second-place Michigan Tigers 2008 Girls Gold (MI) — but still has work to do to secure the division title.

“We are obviously thrilled to be in the position we are with five wins and one draw with one game to go in conference play,” KC Fusion coach Brian Hoffman said. “There are no easy games in Premier I Division of the Midwest Conference, so our ability to consistently see games through is a testament to the commitment and work the girls have put in this year. That being said — a strong start is just that, a start, and we fully understand that there is still work to be done to finish strong as well.”

After qualifying for the 2022 USYS National Championships via National League P.R.O., Hoffman and KC Fusion know the potential opportunities ahead of them this season, but he said the players are taking it one game at a time and leaning on lessons learned through past experiences.

“Our conference has been extremely competitive year in and year out,” Hoffman said. “In fact, the last two years at the USYS National Championships, the final has included a team from our conference, and last year’s 2008 Girls National Champion came from the Midwest Conference, as well. We love the competitive nature of every single game we get in Midwest Conference.”

The Midwest Conference is one of 13 conferences in the USYS National League. Action in the Midwest Conference will continue throughout the year with teams inching closer to earning qualification into National League P.R.O. or a spot at the 2023 USYS Midwest Regional Championships.

Midwest Conference girls teams off to strong start in Fall 2022 season

FRISCO, Texas (Sept. 21, 2022) — The US Youth Soccer (USYS) Midwest Conference continued the early portion of its fall season this past weekend, as several teams kicked off their campaigns and started their push toward a conference title.

Teams in the Premier I Division are looking to capitalize on their strong starts with the opportunity to earn placement in the 2023 USYS Midwest Regional Championships and 2023-24 season of National League P.R.O.

The Midwest Conference fall season primarily features girls teams in the 13U-19U age groups, while the boys teams primarily compete in the spring season. This past weekend included 30 girls teams in action at the Rantoul Family Sports Complex in Rantoul, Ill.

In the 18U Girls Premier I Division, KC Blaze Academy Gunners (MO), which finished mid-table last season, looks ready for the Midwest’s tough competition after wins over Chicago Inter 2005 Blue (IL) and Michigan Jaguars 2005 Girls NLC (MI). In just two games, the Missouri side’s potent offense managed to find the back of the net nine times.

Ben Popoola, head coach of KC Blaze Academy Gunners (MO), shared his thoughts on his team’s hot start.

“Having been a part of the National League Midwest Conference for several years, we know that coming out of Rantoul with six points against two really strong teams from Illinois and Michigan is a fantastic result,” he said.

Popoola also touched on his team’s mindset as it looks to capitalize on its undefeated start.

“The 18U Premier I Division has an extremely deep and talented 10-team division this year,” Popoola said. “Our players are well aware there are a lot of tough games ahead, but through dedication and hard work we will continue to compete at a high level amongst some of the top teams in our region. So far, it is a great start.”

KC Blaze Academy Gunners (MO) will look to continue its title push this weekend with matches against JB Marine Thunder 2005G (MO) and LFA Blue Star Premier 2005G (MO).

Elsewhere in the Premier I Divisions, St. Louis Development Academy 2004G Rangers (MO) sit atop the 19U standings after a commanding start.

The Missouri side, led by an offense that scored 18 goals, picked up three crucial wins during its opening weekend of games, with perhaps the most important result a 4-2 victory over last year’s conference champion Team Chicago SC 2004 Elite (IL).

“We’re very happy with the start. Three games in one weekend is a lot, so getting nine points is huge and it’s nice to be the driver’s seat,” said St. Louis coach Mike Preusser. “These games are extremely valuable. Team Chicago was at Nationals last year, so we expected a tight game. These types of matches in the Midwest Conference prep you for National League P.R.O. and Nationals further along this season.”

St. Louis Development Academy 2004G Rangers (MO) will continue its conference schedule with matches against Michigan Jaguars 2004 Girls NLC (MI) and MI Burn 04 Black (MI) this week.

The Missouri side will compete in the National League P.R.O. later this season, and Preusser said his team has a few main objectives left for its 19U season.

“One of biggest goals for the team is helping the players get to the next level. College commitments are huge for this team and, while many are committed, we have a few finishing the recruiting process and hope to get them all in,” Preusser said. “Our ultimate goal is to win the National Championship. We were semifinalists last year, and the players feel this year’s team is the best version they have had. They feel it is an attainable goal.”

The Midwest Conference is one of 13 conferences in the USYS National League. Action in the Midwest Conference will continue throughout the year with teams inching closer to earning qualification into National League P.R.O. or a spot at the 2023 USYS Midwest Regional Championships.
